About the Author
R. David Gustafson is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Rock Valley College in Illinois and has also taught extensively at Rockford College and Beloit College. He is coauthor of several best-selling mathematics textbooks, including Gustafson/Frisk/Hughes' COLLEGE ALGEBRA, Gustafson/Karr/Massey's BEGINNING ALGEBRA, INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA, BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA, BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA: A COMBINED APPROACH, and the Tussy/Gustafson and Tussy/Gustafson/Koenig developmental mathematics series. His numerous professional honors include Rock Valley Teacher of the Year and Rockford's Outstanding Educator of the Year. He has been very active in AMATYC as a Midwest Vice-president and has been President of IMACC, AMATYC's Illinois affiliate. He earned a Master of Arts from Rockford College in Illinois, as well as a Master of Science from Northern Illinois University.

About the Author

Ultimate Cookbook for Mergers, Acquisitions, Partnerships, Joint Ventures & Alliances

Anything written by Hubert Saint-Onge is certainly going to be worth reading and this is no exception. Presenting an excellent discussion of the many many considerations for those companies who are merging or are considering merging (or forming partnerships, joint ventures or alliances) it's filled with easily understood mini-case examples and a wealth of strategy tips and tools.

Hubert has a real knack for identifying missing pieces of a strategy approach and for making the complex easy to grasp and absorb and because of that this book reads like a cover-to-cover "to-do" list of critical considerations before, during and after any merger. I also found it useful that he takes on the critical role of organizational knowledge and Knowledge Management, laying out clearly the role that they have for any organization and especially during a merger.

This is one of those "must reads" and it will be as on-spot and topical years from now as it is today. I highly recommend this book for anyone considering or involved in mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, joint ventures or alliances -- if you don't read this book this year you'll no doubt regret it next year. And I think that it is also a must read for anyone working in Knowledge Management.

If you're going to do M&A, do it right

Mr. Saint-Onge and Mr. Chatzkel have written an eminently readable book that offers real-world guidance that is right on target for today's deal environment. Statistics support that a successful M&A strategy can truly deliver exceptional value from a number of vantage points. As a principal in a company that builds tools that help to streamline and accelerate M&A processes, I understand that this high-value activity is not without risk. In fact, a significant percentage of deals fail to achieve the announced value and some end up as costly mistakes. Much of this is due to poor planning, incomplete due diligence and slow, chaotic integration. Beyond the Deal takes you through the process step-by-step, highlighting success factors as well as factors that commonly derail integrations. If M&A is part of your growth strategy, then read this book. If you are in the middle of a deal, then read this book. Whether you are a new student to the world of M&A or a veteran who has "seen it all," you should definitely read this book.

Too many M&A deals take place when two senior executives fall in "lust". Time-Warner/AOL is one current example of a transaction that has not created breakthrough performance. In the current economic environment, we will see more arranged business marriages. Read "Beyond the Deal" to make your deal a success. The book uses case studies and clear graphics to teach us how to make a quantum leap in corporate performance. I also appreciate the emphasis on the importance of leveraging intangibles as part of the business model Read the success factors at the end of each chapter and you will create a better company. Make this book a must read in 2009 if you are thinking about aligning with another corporate entity. You will know what questions to ask BEFORE you do the deal.

Worthwhile

A large part of this book is an atlas, one page per species: the atlas is in color, as is the Appendix, while the rest of the book is in B&W. Actually there are two atlasses, one of close to three hundred woody plant species (including some monocots) in West Africa and one of fifty timber species that are important in a smaller area (apparently to be called "Upper Guinea"). However, the three hundred species include some additional timber species, that for some reason did not make it into the second atlas.

Per species there always is a description, a detailed distribution map (very clear, in lovely color), and often a line-drawing or color photograph (personally I would have liked more illustrations, if need be at the expense of the size of the distribution map). The Appendix presents maps in a fair degree of detail showing forest cover. The first hundred pages provide general information on West African forests.

your military source

my brother got me into the janes aircraft and janes fighting ships many years ago and love to look at them. I have over the years
paid a "pretty" penny for these books and like to look at them. they are reference books for the military and is a reference source for any type of military hardware except top secret stuff.

Good product, price acceptable but not for condition it arrived in

I wrote a review in which I rated the seller's service and product at 3 stars. I think I was a bit harsh. The book is excellent as are all of the Jane's All the World's Aircraft volumes. They delivered it reasonably quickly, too.

My complaint was the packaging was insufficient and impractical for a 6.8 pound book. It was in a manila-type envelope lined with thin bubble wrap. This through shipment, no doubt, and the weight of the contents, had it corners badly "bumped" and the envelope was torn in several places. As it was advertised as "like new," in shrink wrap which had been cut at top to put in a stamp, and otherwise in excellent condition, I expected a $399 item (my basic cost plus postage) not to be damaged. I consider that it was damaged and requested that thought be given for an adjustment on the price charged. I still consider that fair and reasonable.

I love the book, but think that the seller could have done better and am happy with the product but not its condition.

Incredible creatures from the whole world which were flying over our heads without we knew it, put in a heavy book. Thousands of worlds and nearly as many descriptions with the most secret details, accompanied by fine pictures of the in- and outside of the different aircraft, make this book (yearly) a must for everyone who looks sometimes above when (s)he thinks to hear a not very musical sound.

Directions from the Master

I read this along with "Your Hands Can Heal You", by Stephen Co. Both books together provided the insights, and instruction I needed to
direct my path of self healing. Stephen Co was a student of Choa Kok Sui and took the principals he learned and put them into his book in an easy to read, detailed, step by step format. However, this book is from the originator, and extremely valuable as well.

Very informative book

Chuck full of good information although the descriptions and explanations of how to do the techniques are sometimes vague or difficult to duplicate. Perhaps I'm not good enough for this practice but I suspect that it requires tutelage by a trained or expert practitioner, which I can try to pursue on my own.
