Pathetic Heroine Made Me Cringe *Spoilers*

I could forgive the heroine for her foolish actions and extreme schoolgirl crush on the hero when she was sixteen but thirteen years later, she was still acting like that clingy, immature, petulant teenager. She held a ton of resentment for the hero in present day due to what he did when they were teens but she was just as much if not more to blame for what happened than he was. She threw herself at him knowing that he had no idea who she was and when he took her up on her offer without proclaiming his undying love to her, she was devastated.
If she was still that sore about it over a decade later, why was she the one initiating every single sexual act they had as adults? Apparently she didn't understand the concept of playing hard to get and I really disliked the air of desperation she had about her whenever she was within a foot of the hero.
The hero was nothing to brag about either. He was just a little too cool and self-possessed for my liking. He didn't act like a man in love, even at the end. I guess I didn't like that the feelings were so one-sided. The heroine had this obsessive, needy love for him for years and years and in the last few pages, he makes some ambiguous remark about how he's pretty sure he's loved her all along too. When was that? He made a half-assed attempt to apologize to her when they were teens and when he couldn't find her, he went on with his life like nothing happened. He lived the life of the ultimate bachelor, having casual affairs with long-legged blondes (his preference, even though the heroine is a petite brunette) and then leaving when things got serious. He didn't even recognize the heroine when he saw her again as an adult! Does that sound like a man in love?

I think the description of the storyline concept is accurate - the battle within ourselves and the feelings formed in youth may be suppressed for years but do you really rid yourselves of them, no matter your age? Hard to do, especially if unrequited love. Who's to say if a man, in this case the object of the heroine's affection, always makes sense either..wanting to "eat his cake and have it too." Renee Roszel always has interesting scenarios, much of the time with humor I greatly enjoy. The story is meant to be a light-hearted escape for a few hours, though some might want to take it to a psychology class to discuss and take more seriously. To each their own and for me, it was a "nice escape." Thanks to the author!

Tessa Jane Mankiller had a rather tough life. Her mother passed away, her father drank and couldn't hold a job and worst of all she fell in love at sixteen with someone who didn't love her back. One night of passion and rejection stayed with Tessa. Then thirteen years later, that same person walked into her life for a second time.
Dr. Cordell Redigo was a renown marine biologist finding and capturing two fish that were thought to be long ago extinct. Taking a break from his beloved work he came to Lost Cove Inn in Vermont to help his cousin Mary prove, or in his opinion, disprove the existence of Champ, a mythical creature. The dark haired inn keeper was a pleasant surprise, and something niggled in his mind that she seemed familiar.
What could a famous marine biologist and an inn keeper have in common? More than you would think. The author takes the reader on an adventure from the mind of a sixteen year old who thinks she's in love to a young woman who just thinks stability is all she needs for happiness. A young man who believes all he needs in life is his work. The mythical Champ brings them together, and they both find out how wrong they were. Another exciting romance by Renee Roszel that is filled with ups and downs on the journey of life and love.
