About the Author

Rick Greenwald has been active in the world of computer software for over two decades, including stints with Data General, Cognos, and Gupta. He is currently Director of Product Management with Oracle Corporation, responsible for the Oracle Database Cloud. He has been a principal author of 19 books and countless articles on a variety of technical topics, and has spoken at conferences and training sessions across six continents. Rick’s titles include 4 editions of Oracle Essentials (principal author with Robert Stackowiak and Jonathan Stern, O'Reilly Media, Inc), a number of books on Application Express and its predecessors, and books on data warehousing, Oracle programming and Exadata.

Robert Stackowiak has more than 25 years of experience in data warehousing and business intelligence architecture, software development, new database and systems product introduction, and technical sales and sales consulting. During the writing of this edition of Oracle Essentials, he is Vice President of Big Data and Analytics Architecture in Oracle’s Enterprise Solutions Group. He has spoken on related Oracle topics at a wide variety of conferences including Gartner Group’s BI Summit, TDWI, ComputerWorld’s BI & Analytics Perspectives, Oracle OpenWorld, and numerous IOUG events. Among the other books he co-authored are the following: Achieving Extreme Performance with Oracle Exadata (McGraw-Hill Oracle Press), Professional Oracle Programming (WROX), and Oracle Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Solutions (Wiley). Jonathan Stern used more than 13 years of experience in contributing to the original edition of this book. His background included senior positions in consulting, systems architecture, and technical sales at Oracle and other companies. He demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the Oracle Database across major open systems hardware and operating systems. His expertise included Database tuning, scaling, parallelism, clustering, and high availability for transaction processing systems and data warehousing implementations. Some of the fundamentals of Oracle that he originally contributed to the first edition live on in this edition of Oracle Essentials though much has changed in the Oracle Database since Jonathan passed on. Each edition of this book is a reminder of the talent and attention to detail that he possessed.

Good Top Level Introduction to Oracle 12c

Oracle 12c is the latest in a long line of Oracle products. After struggling to match three versions of Oracle 11 OCCI drivers and my client's various databases, I thought that it would just be easier in general if I got a good look at where Oracle was going. This book seemed to be the answer. It has a very good top level introduction to 12c, but it never descends far into the particulars to give you an understanding of the differences.

I think that with only 380 pages of working text that that was a good decision. The other Oracle working manuals are over 700 pages in size and they don't really reach a comprehensive level of coverage either.

I think this book serves well to introduce the new product without getting lost in the details. Chapter 8 and 9 on performance tuning and concurrency are as close as it comes to introducing the differences of version 12c compared to 10 and 9. This approach is consistent with Oracle's previous documentation. In other words, there is no one stop shopping for an Oracle book.You will have to buy a number of them to cover any particular database design issue. The point is simply that you must be committed to Oracle as a database solution. If you aren't, pick up some other database.

I know other DB systems like MySQL, MS SQL, IBM DB2 or Sybase and I wanted to learn about the Oracle.
For me, this book hits the bullseye!

I got everything I wanted to know, plus the details I couldn't find on my own.
It is written in the right manner and the pace is really good.

This is good for the people new to this matter as well as experienced users.

On Point and Well Written

This book condenses the Oracle database system into an easy to read format. The book manages to present the essential information on Oracle architecture in technically precise language without being overly dry or resorting to silliness. The pleasant writing style is something not often found in technical literature, except in O'Reilly books. A must read for DBAs.

This book has been written so that the veil of Satan has carefully woven over the faces of men would be removed.

Many, even so called believers, do not understand what salvation is all about, not to talk of enjoying it. Salvation includes deliverance for spiritual captives in the spirit.

One of Satan's best instruments against believers is ignorance. This book has been written to expose the subtle ways through which the devil has contaminated many lives thereby preventing them from realizing the purpose of God for their lives.

This book is a practical guide for any one with the determination to experience the power in the name of Jesus Christ as the only name given unto man for salvation. Demonic activity is on the increase and will continue to heighten until the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, but you can be free if you wish

Another name for him is Han Feizi or Han Fei Zi. He is famous for the legalism theory which is similar to the western idea of "rule of law". Thus rather than a King making decisions , decisions followed prescribed policies. Also known as a bureaucratic style of governing vs tyranny from a dictator or King. I plan to get this book. Han Feizi's book the "Symptom of a Collapse" (of countries) was mentioned in the Korean TV drama A Yaksa (on Netlix), which is where I learned about him.

About the Author
Anthony Reyes is a retired Detective with the New York City Police Department’s Computer Crimes Squad. During his assignment with the Computer Crimes Squad, he investigated computer intrusion, fraud, identity theft, child exploitation, and software piracy. Detective Reyes previously sat as an alternate member of New York Governor George E. Pataki's Cyber-Security Task Force. Mr. Reyes is a member of the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. He is also a member of the National Institute of Justice Electronic Crime Partnership Initiative (ECPI). Additionally, he is a member of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), and served as the President in 2005 of the Association’s Northeast Chapter.

Kevin O’Shea is a Homeland Security and Intelligence Specialist for the Technical Analysis Group in the Justiceworks program at the University of New Hampshire. Kevin assisted in the development of the NH Strategic Plan to Combat Cyber Crime and currently supports the implementation of the Strategic Plan. Kevin has authored and coauthored a number of high-tech training programs for the law enforcement community and has assisted in the development of a new digital forensics paradigm in use in N.H.

Prior to working at the University of New Hampshire, he was a Research Associate for Project Management within the Technical Analysis Group in the Institute for Security Technology Studies at Dartmouth College. He was a member of the research team and substantive author of three critical national reports to document and present the most pressing impediments facing the law-enforcement community when investigating and responding to cyber attacks: Law Enforcement Tools and Technologies for Investigating Cyber Attacks: A National Needs Assessment, Gap Analysis, and the Research and Development Agenda.

James “Jim” Steele (CISSP, MCSE: Security, Security+) has a career rich with experience in the security, computer forensics, network development, and management fields. For over 15 years he has played integral roles regarding project management, systems administration, network administration, and enterprise security management in public safety and mission-critical systems. As a Senior Technical Consultant assigned to the NYPD E-911 Center, he designed and managed implementation of multiple systems for enterprise security; he also performed supporting operations on-site during September 11, 2001, and the blackout of 2003. Jim has also participated in foreign projects such as the development of the London Metropolitan Police C3i Project, for which he was a member of the Design and Proposal Team. Jim’s career as a Technical Consultant also includes time with the University of Pennsylvania and the FDNY. His time working in the diverse network security field and expert knowledge of operating systems and network products and technologies has prepared him for his current position as Manager of Digital Forensics with a large wireless carrier. His responsibilities include performing workstation, server, PDA, cell phone, and network forensics as well as acting as a liaison to multiple law enforcement agencies, including the United States Secret Service and the FBI. On a daily basis he investigates cases of fraud, employee integrity, and compromised systems. Jim is a member of HTCC, NYECTF, InfraGard, CTIN and the HTCIA.

It is nearly impossible to pass the certifications without paying $5000 course + pretest. The pretest of the class is the same as the real test -- verbatim. Cheating means you have prior knowledge of the test you're taking. Don't believe someone says that they're certified because 90% of the time, it was acquired through legal system of cheating.

For the money, this was a good find however, there was some water damage on the lower outside of each page. It did not damage any of the reading material, writings in the book though.
All in all, it was not only a good find but a good investment.
