Very poor read. Could not recommend this to anyone...

At the top of this book it reads "how to skyrocket your Business through "social Media Marketing"" So I was really hoping for some "how to" type advice. What I found is far from that.

At the bottom of this book it says "Master Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, & LinkedIn. You will only find about 4-5 pages dedicated to each. On top of that there it is in size 20 font double spaced. Do you think thats enough information to "master" a complex social media site? I don't. The book is 121 pages total, but It could easily fit into a 50 page book if it didn't look like it was written for a first grad reading class.

It was has almost no actual advice other than very general ideas that almost everyone should know any way. It talks a lot about there being tools to use that can help you do xy and z. It never actually tells you what the tools are, how they work, or even where to find them. If Andy knows of such tools why didn't he recommend a few of his favorite??? When it came to the SEO portion of the book it basically said. SEO is important and you should research about it, but maybe don't spent to much time on it because its hard and changes all the time... It covered other topics in the same fashion and I was highly disappointed.

If I learned anything from this book, it was that a "best seller" on amazon means nothing. I have heard that any best seller list can be bought out, I guess amazon can too. If you are looking for good social media marketing books, check out Gary Vaynerchuk books. This book is basically an abridged and paraphrased version of Gary's book "Crush It." Although that book is now outdated, it is still very good.

I will say, if you know absolutely nothing about social media or marketing, this may be a good read. However, if you have taken a Marketing 101 class and have a facebook, there is a good chance you could write this book yourself. Unless you need a description of each social media site and what they are used for, or a quick reintroduction to what Marketing is, then do not buy this book

Can't believe I wasted money on getting this book

Can't believe I wasted money on getting this book. Very superficial and useless info for many marketers. Read the book in 1/2 hour. Very little if any useful content after reading the thin, little book. They do not provide return labels, so you have to ship the book back and pay for return shipping. I like straight to the point, educational marketing books. This one was not for me at all. Out of the many books on marketing and advertising that I have read, this one is by far the worst in terms of content.
They also write on the initial pages of the book that the content in this book is meant for educational and entertainment purposes only and that they are not responsible for the accuracy of data provided. Then what's the point of this book? There was nothing entertaining about it and the few sentences that I read that seemed fairly new to me are so few, that they would not even fill a paragraph. I just had to write this review, as I was shaking my head the entire time I read this book. Sorry.....

This book, a daily devotional for we women who base our value on our love lives with our men is a real eye opener. I couldn't wait to read to the next day. It helps to see what you already deep down know in your heart to be true...it validates all the feelings that you have. For those of you that are dependant on men for completion...get this book.

A very painful divorce and a subsequent tumultuous relationship forced me to face issues I had never faced from my childhood. I read book after book and there were many that helped to uncover what was underneath the behaviors I had developed. But of all the books, I consider this meditation book for Women Who Love Too Much to be my handbook for survival and true change. Whenever I feel myself slipping, I pick up the book and read it from cover to cover. I have many pages dog-eared that are particularly appropriate. I can't recommend it enough.

I loved reading this book daily. Some meditations did not "really apply" for my situation but they made me think. It made me realize a lot of things, and I even used some thoughts as quotes that I sent to friends via email. I must say that it is a little book with a lot of wisdom.

According to Schimmel, the seven deadly sins underlie many of today's personal neuroses and social ills. Unlike those who call substance abuse a disease or an addiction, this psychotherapist points to sloth, greed and anger at work. Behind the passions evoked by the Persian Gulf war, he detects the sin of pride. He faults society for a massive failure of self-control and perceives the hand of envy, lust, gluttony and the other vices in rampant divorce, overeating, pornography, abuse of public trust and indifference to the suffering of others. A professor at Hebrew College in Massachusetts, Schimmel draws on the moral teachings of Judaism, Graecostet -Roman philosophy and Christianity, along with insights gleaned from his clinical practice and nuggets from Dante and Shakespeare. His point that the high self-esteem advocated by modern secular psychology often slipsok, or spills?/I like slips better.gs over into selfishness is well taken. More than an old-fashioned hellfire sermon, this is a surprising, humane handbook for self-transformation.

Schimmel, a practicing psychotherapist, believes that early Jewish, Graeco-Roman, and Christian moralistic and philosophical instruction provides valuable insight into the human condition. He attempts "to translate its relevant teachings into an idiom that speaks to modern man while respecting his skepticism about religious dogma." The seven deadly sins, their destructive results, and psychological techniques for overcoming them provide the outline for the author's discussion, buttressed with anecdotes from his practice. The work ends with a discussion of sin and responsibility in terms of determinism versus free will. This is a well-argued attack on value-free theories of psychoanalysis for general religion and psychology collections.

Jonathan Oxer is the founder and technical director of Internet Vision Technologies in Australia, as well as the past president of Linux Australia, the national organization for Linux users, developers, and vendors.

Kyle Rankin is a system administrator who enjoys troubleshooting, problem solving, and system recovery. He is also the author of Knoppix Hacks, Knoppix Pocket Reference, Linux Multimedia Hacks, and Ubuntu Hacks for O'Reilly Media. He has been using Linux in many different forms since 1998, and has used live CDs to demo Linux and troubleshoot machines -- from DemoLinux to the LinuxCare bootable toolbox to Knoppix.

Bill Childers is Director of Enterprise Systems for Quinstreet, Inc. He's been working with Linux and Unix since before it was cool, and previously worked for Sun Microsystems and Set Engineering.

A book you'll use -- The Ubuntu "comfortabilizing" guide...

Because this Web site already contains quite a few very detailed reviews of Ubuntu Hacks, I'm going to provide a very brief synopsis of why I found the book useful.

I've been running Ubuntu Linux as my primary operating system for a bit less than three months. There've been a few teeth-gnashing, table-pounding "Linux moments", but on the whole Ubuntu's installability, basic configurability, and usability are all superior to other Linux distributions I've tried and abandoned over the past three or so years.

But, like a lot of people I've run Windows most of the time. That means there's bound to be a lot about Linux in general, and Ubuntu in particular, that I don't know. This is where Ubuntu Hacks provides useful and usable information that helped me "comfortabilize" Ubuntu.

The primary categories of information in Ubuntu Hacks are (a) adjusting stuff that's already there, and (b) installing new, useful stuff that's not part of a default installation. Between those two categories, Ubuntu Hacks will help a new Ubuntu user become more thoroughly oriented with his or her new Linux system. To cite but one example, Ubuntu Hacks enabled me to install and configure the free VMware Server that allows me to run a Windows virtual machine "under" Linux. This in turn is greatly reducing the number of times I need to boot into my dual-boot computer's Windows partition...

Finally, I'll add that over the past year or so I've cut *way* back on the number of technical books I'm buying. A book must provide me not only with information, but organize and present that information in a way that allows me to efficiently locate and apply it. Ubuntu Hacks fulfills that requirement.

Great linux reference

I love anything that O'Reilly puts out typically, and this was no exception. The hacks, of course, aren't what most people would think of hacks, but they are very neat tricks that give you a lot of advanced options and customization. I felt this book was thorough enough that any skill level could understand how to do these tricks and (basically) know what's going on. I myself am a Ubuntu newbie, but i still find this book very useful. Note however that this is not a Ubuntu guide, just some cool tricks, If you want an Ubuntu i would recommend the Official Ubuntu book (i like the older 2008 & 2009 versions better than the newer ones) or A Practical Guide to Ubuntu Linux or Ubuntu Unleased. All those are great; they cover a bunch of stuff and do it from the ground up.
This book is slightly more advanced but very helpful, more of a reference format, rather than straight reading (though you can do that.) As far as the datedness of the book compared to the versions of Ubuntu out, that doesn't seem to be an issue.

O'Reilly didn't disappoint, and for the price i got it used (great condition) i feel like it was an excellent purchase.

Must Have In Your Ubuntu Arsenal!

Like the other "HACKS" books in the series this format is useful for quick unencumbered access to good information via the numbered hacks with references to related hacks within the body of the text as necessary. Where the "For Dummies Series" tries to cut through the technical text and get to the meat of a subject the HACKS series does a superior job of this via its layout, so don't buy the "yellow books". I also purchased "Beginning Ubuntu Linux" by Kent Thomas, ISBN-10: 1590596277. The 2nd edition of Kent's book is do out soon. I was able to get Ubuntu on my main computer (dual boot with windows xp sk2) up and running with out a glitch. I highly recommend this HACKS books, like any book there are a couple of kinks. The most prominent one is chasing down the multimedia codec's and installing them so you can a very flexible multimedia player. The reference to the website for the codec's is outdated, but with a good google you will be able to find them. I choose to use "mplayer" instead of the default install of "totem", but that was just a personal choice on my part. If your are ready for Linux the Ubuntu distro and this book is for you.
